Fientje Moerman is Vice Minister-President of the Flemish Government and Minister for Economy, Enterprise, Science, Innovation and Foreign Trade. She holds a Master of Law from the Harvard Law School USA, she did her Bar Exam in 1983 at New York State USA and began her professional career as a lawyer at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York and Brussels from 1982 to 1984. She was appointed as Deputy Editor, Economics and Finance at the “Standaard” in 1984. Assigned as spokesperson for the Liberals and Democrats at the European Parliament in 1985. She was Adviser of the former President of France, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in 1991, and became Chief Adviser for institutional reforms and relations with Israel and the Gulf States until 1995. She is a member of the Party Executive Committee of the Flemish Liberals and member of the Council of the European Liberals.  In 1999 she was member of Parliament and became also Secretary General of the VLD until 2003, before being elected as Federal Minister for Economy, Energy, Foreign Trade and Science Policy in 2003.

As Vice-President of the Public Sector for Cisco Systems in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Yvon Le Roux is responsible for strategy, sales and marketing for government, healthcare, education and defence. He was appointed to head the newly-formed Public Sector team in May 2003. Le Roux joined Cisco in 1996 as Vice-President for EMEA South, which included operations in France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and Africa. Prior to Cisco, he held a number of senior positions at IT companies, spanning several territories. His career began at Sperry Computer Systems before moving to Matra Informatique as President in 1984.  As part of his remit, Le Roux oversees the Cisco Networking Academy Program in EMEA, a highly successful public-private partnership between business, government and educational institutions. The Program teaches thousands of students every year how to design build and maintain computer networks - skills that countries need to compete in the global digital economy. Le Roux is also responsible for helping public sector customers secure funding from different government bodies for programmes such as providing broadband to citizens and businesses. In addition, he has launched a number of research projects exploring the effects of IT on the public sector, such as Net Impact: From Connectivity to Productivity.

Duco Sickinghe has worked for almost 20 years in the technology and media industry. He holds a Dutch Master's degree in Law and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Columbia University. Mr. Sickinghe started his career in finance with Hewlett Packard in its European headquarters in Switzerland. He then moved to Germany to head up the LaserJet product line for Europe. He concluded his tenure at HP Europe by building out its indirect sales channels. He served at NeXT Computer, first as Vice President Marketing Europe and then as General Manager for France. Mr. Sickinghe was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Software Direct, which later became a joint venture with Hachette in Paris. Mr. Sickinghe joined Wolters Kluwer in 1996, and as General Manager of Kluwer Publishing in the Netherlands oversaw its transition to electronic media and re?engineered the company's traditional business. He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Telenet in the summer of 2001. Mr. Sickinghe has lived in Belgium, the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. From 1999 to 2001 he was strategic advisor for corporate business development and technology strategy, in major acquisitions and projects in LHSP and Executive member of the board of LHIC (Lernout&Hauspie Investment Company: investment in 13 IT-companies worldwide of which four companies have gone IPO during this time frame. Before he was IT Executive Program Director Benelux at Gartner Group. Jan has a also a background at the Ministry of Defense in different functions such as assistant professor in Information Technology at the Polytechnic Division of the Royal Military Academy in Brussels and officer at the Para-Comando Brigade. Jan holds various academic degrees: Ph.D. from the University of Leuven, Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, Engineering degree in Telecommunications from the Polytechnic Division of the Royal Military Academy Belgium, Engineering degree in Computer Science from the University of Leuven, a Postgraduate degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate degree in Finance. Wim De Waele obtained his diplomas in Economics and Computer Sciences in 1987 at the University of Ghent. He started his career as a scientific researcher in the area of artificial intelligence. He continued his work in the intelligent software systems at Siemens, where he worked in the R&D departments in Brussels and Munich. After that he was active as the Services Director at the Canadian software company Numetrix. Wim joined i2 Technologies as the Services Director for Europe in 1994. He was promoted to the position of vice-president for consumer goods and retail, relocating to the headquarters of i2 Technologies in Dallas. After his return to Europe in 2001 he became the Chief Technology Officer of the Real Software Group. He has been the General Director of IBBT since 1 August 2004.

Prof. dr. Jo Pierson is Senior Researcher at SMIT (Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication) - member of IBBT (Interdisciplinary institute for BroadBand Technology) - and holds a PhD in social science (communication studies). In the past he has worked as researcher-advisor for the Dutch knowledge institute TNO in Delft. He now lectures bachelor and master courses on socio-economic issues of the information society and on qualitative research methods at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in the department of Communication Studies (Faculty of Arts and Philosophy). His core expertise is situated in the field of innovation strategic research on the meaning and use of fixed and mobile media technologies at home, at work and in public settings. In this domain he is managing a range of projects. In addition he is doing research on involving users in the technological development process based on ethnographic study and Living Lab research. He also publishes on the adoption and domestication of ICT by small business (SMEs and micro-enterprises). He has a special interest in co-creative, user-driven open innovation and research. He has facilitated on the Commission side the launch of the European Network of Living Labs by the Finnish Presidency and is working, together with CLOCK and CoreLabs EU Coordination Actions, for the benefit of the ENoLL 2nd and 3rd wave launch processes during the Portuguese and Slovenian Presidencies. He has worked for the Commission since 1998, most recently with New Working Environments responsibilities, including the AMI family of communities launch. Before the Commission he held ICT industry marketing and new business development positions at Nokia, Digital and Alcatel. Prior to joining Microsoft, O’Hara was vice president, marketing at Sonus Networks, a world leader in packet voice communications, where he drove the company’s marketing strategy and oversaw all marketing functions. In that capacity, he spearheaded the business strategy to re-focus Sonus into the wireless communications market, and established the company as a major player in the voice over IP domain. Previously, O’Hara served as chief marketing officer at Nortel Networks in Europe. In that role, he had responsibility for Nortel’s marketing and sales operations programs in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, directing functions such as public relations, advertising, government relations, analyst relations, trade shows, events, customer training, account marketing and geographic marketing. Prior to that, O’Hara was vice president of business operations reporting to the chief operating officer. From 1994 to 1998, he served in a number of positions including sales, operations and customer service with Nortel Networks in Europe. Prior to 1994, O’Hara was the manufacturing engineering manager at Nortel’s manufacturing facility in Monkstown, Northern Ireland. Jean-Claude Burgelman is head of the ICT Unit at IPTS (one of the 7 research institutes of the European Commission, DG Joint Research Centre). Degrees in social sciences (Phd 1986) and in science and technology policy (MA 1991) from the Free University of Brussels (FUB), where he teaches a course on the ``Global aspects of the information society``. Till 2000 he was full professor of communication technology policy at the FUB where he chaired the department of communication studies and created the research centre Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunications, and was involved in the science and technology assessment work of this university. He has been guest professor at the University of Antwerp and the University of South Africa and is board member of some important scientific journals in IST policy (Communication and Strategies; Telematics and Informatics; Media, Culture and Society; etc.) and member of the scientific board of CPR, the Communication Policy Research Conference. He joined the DG JRC first as Visiting Scientist of IPTS where he became Head of the ICT unit in 2005.

Jon Lane is Programme Director of BT’s Wireless Cities Programme. The Wireless Cities Programme is a key strategic initiative within BT to wireless broadband enable city centres in major cities in the UK. Within his role Jon is responsible for the overall delivery of the programme, including technical design and implementation, product portfolio development and the commercial model. Jon has been with BT for 14 years, previously working as Head of BT’s Indirect Channel business unit and as Head of the BT’s mid-market business unit. As Head of the Indirect Channel business unit, Jon had responsibility for BT’s network of indirect channel partners, dealers and distributors. In this role Jon implemented a new partner tiering and accreditation approach and oversaw a substantial growth in ICT and broadband revenues through what had previously been a voice focussed set of partners. As Head of BT’s Corporate mid-market business unit, Jon had some 1,000 field and desk sales and customer service personnel across the UK with responsibility for selling and supporting the complete range of BT products and solutions. Prior to these roles, Jon was Director, Portfolio Strategy within BT’s Group Strategy team.

Patricia Ceysens graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1998 from the law school. She also obtained a degree in Marketing Management from CMO (now Syntra) in 1991. Patricia Ceysens was a lawyer at the bar in Leuven from 1988 till 1989. From 1990 onwards she practiced law in Brussels at Loeff, Claeys, Verbeke (now Allen & Overy Belguim) where she specialised in intellectual property rights. From 1989 until 1990 she acted as an academic assistant at the law school of the KU Leuven. Patricia Ceysens started her political carrière as a town councillor in 1995. In the same year she also became provincial councillor and was elected as a member of the Flemish Parliament. In 1999 Patricia Ceysens became the president of the Health Commission. In June of 2003 she became the Flemish Minister of Economy, Foreign Policy and E-government. Koen Delvaux has been active in IT and Telecommunications for more then 12 years. After reaching a Master in Engineering Science he started his professional live at Siemens. After being the youngest Software Architect in the company, he felt the desire to realize his own product concepts and became Product Manager by not only conceptualizing the first VoIP Teleworking solution worldwide, but also successfully turning it into a product. Ever since, Koen has been passionate about creating business opportunities by defining innovate solutions and putting them in the right emerging market. Whilst being a Strategic Business Development manager, Koen started a lot of new initiatives, amongst which one of the first mobile gaming companies in the industry, Minifizz. After launching Com@Work, an ASP based messaging and real time communications offering for the SME market, he assisted in the incubation of Sinfilo, an early WISP. In 2004 Koen was part of the management team that started up i-City, where he was Director of the Living Lab for 2 years. Rudy Aernoudt has studied Economy and Philosophy at the University of Leuven and holds a masters in European economics from the College of Europe. After a career as corporate manager in the banking sector, he became principal administrator at the European Commission dealing with enterprise policy, in particular the financing of European enterprises. He was special adviser to the Belgian President of the Industry Council during the Belgian Presidency of the European Union before becoming Deputy Head of Cabinet to the Walloon Minister of economics dealing with research, entrepreneurship and financing. Afterwards he became director of Cabinet to the Federal minister of economics, energy, external trade and scientific policy. From 2004 onwards, he became chief of staff (head of cabinet) to the Flemish Vice-president and minister of economy, enterprises, science and international trade. As of September 1, 2006, he has been promoted to Secretary General of the Department of Economics, Science and Innovation of the Flemish Government. He is also professor in corporate finance at the Business schools of Brussels and Ghent and the European University of Nancy. He is the author of twenty books and over one hundred fifty articles on the topics of finance and politics. He is a member of the editorial boards of Venture Capital, Financial Management and Entrepreneurial and Business Angel Financing. He was the responsible organiser of the yearly European symposium on financing in Louvain-la-Neuve gathering over 3000 participants and is member of the board of different enterprises.

He is doctor in law and economics, bac. philisophy (KUL) and M.A. economics (Columbia university, New York). He is professor em. economics at the Catholic university of Leuven and former member of the Belgian Parliament (1977-2003), of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the WEU (1993-2003). He is past president of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for sciences and arts and president of the Francqui Foundation and other scientific and cultural institutions. He is member of the board of the International Crisis Group and of the board of several Belgian and foreign companies. He is the author of thirty eight books and articles and a sunday afternoon painter.

Greet De Keyser is an experienced radio and TV reporter. For over 20 years she travels the world as the current affairs reporter for Belgian and Dutch TV broadcasters. In the year 200 she was assigned to Washington DC as VRT’s first correspondent in the US. She still lives in Washington DC. In the US, she covered 2 elections including the recounts in 2000, 9/11, the war with Afghanistan, the war with Iraq. Greet De Keyser managed to conduct two personal interviews with President Bush and was the first international reporter allowed to film on Ground Zero in New York.
